Summary

Cinnamon Tree is situated in the fashionable dining hub of Exmouth Market, a pedestrianised street in Clerkenwell, EC1, between Farringdon and Angel.

Nearby pubs: The Wilmington, The Easton, Exmouth Arms and Bettsy Trottwood make the area well worth a visit anyway, but Cinnamon Tree is a good option if looking for a curry locally.

I've been here a few times on account of the Taste Card discount available across the week (50% off food Mon-Thurs) and it's never disappointed.

The interior is very pleasant, spacious and well maintained; no dog eared menus or knackered furniture here. In fact, it's of a much higher standard than 90% of curry houses this blog has visited, with a very clean, whitewashed look, illuminated by classy blue-tinted spotlights and uplighting. A fully licensed bar offers a range of drinks, including India's finest: Kingfisher.

On the last visit I took a couple of good friends, Joe and Krishen to lament all things Arsenal. The former ordering a side of chips and the latter as disgusted as I was with this.

Fried potatoes aside, the dishes were very well presented. Some juicy, tandoori lamb chops kicked off proceedings and a lovely fluffy peshwari was accompanied by colourful pilau rice. The vegetable curry wasn't as strong, but the lamb mains we had were solid. Not the largest portions or the cheapest dishes, but Taste Card took the edge off.

The evening ended with a lovely rendition of Happy Birthday for a boy opposite wearing a Mesut Ozil top. The number 11 shirt for his 11th birthday - a lovely touch; it's just a shame there's not a lot else to celebrate with Arsenal recently. At least the poor lad had a top curry!

All in all a very reliable venue and curry in a lovely little culinary pocket in the heart of London.
